Useful fact: Although the Z1 configuration (which is the same configuration used by Nolly Getgood on his personal bass) has the same 4-way pickup selector switch as all other Dingwalls, the Z1 positions are slightly different from the Z3 configuration. With the Z1 configuration, you get the very useful bridge/neck series option instead of the bridge/middle series option that the Z3 (or any normal 3X-equipped bass) has. The bridge/middle position on a 3X is noticeably louder and more aggressive than the other 3 settings, so if you are going to use multiple settings including that one, then you may need to remember to turn down the volume when using that setting. But with the bridge/neck series option on the Z1, the effect is not quite as severe because the neck pickup is naturally less aggressive sounding than the middle pickup. (The other 3 positions are all identical to the Z3 configuration.). And of course, you also save a quarter pound of weight by going with two pickups instead of three, and you save $215 on the price.
